A Space Built to Heal — With Lighting That Had Never Been Measured

Tantra Studios is a bodywork and wellness studio in Miami where practitioners deliver hands-on treatments in an intimate, calming environment. The owner had invested thoughtfully in creating the right atmosphere — warm lighting, intentional design, a space that felt built for healing work.

But like most wellness spaces, the lighting had never been formally evaluated. Fixtures were chosen for aesthetics and warmth, not for measurable health outcomes. The owner had a sense that two particular track lights in the main treatment room felt off — overly yellow and harsh compared to the rest of the studio. Beyond that, she wasn’t sure what to expect.

When Luxara Health was brought in to assess the space, the assumption — reasonable, and shared by most wellness business owners — was that meaningful improvements would likely require replacing most of the studio’s lighting. That’s what a typical lighting company or electrical contractor would recommend.

Three Zones Already Exceeding Standards. One Critical Problem.

We deployed the In. Licht Ultra spectrum and WELL meter across four zones — the shop room, the main treatment room in two lighting configurations, and the bathroom — measuring every fixture against health-related standards from WELL V2, IES TM-30, CIE, IEEE, and AMA guidelines.

The results surprised everyone — in a good way.

Three of the four zones were already performing at or above wellness lighting standards. The shop room scored an exceptional CRI of 98.8 with flicker well below safe thresholds. The main treatment room with ambient lights on measured a CRI of 96.9 with warm, circadian-appropriate color temperature. The bathroom had strong color quality and — given the short duration of typical visits — posed no practical health concern.

The owner’s existing lighting investment was doing exactly what it should.

Except for two bulbs.

The two track lights illuminating the center stage treatment area — the focal point where practitioners work on clients — were producing 99.9% flicker (safe threshold: under 20%), a CRI of just 71.8 (minimum acceptable: 80), and an SDCM of 39.1 (ideal: under 5). The stroboscopic effect was visible to the naked eye. The two lights pointed directly at the most important spot in the studio were the worst performers in the building.

What a Typical Contractor Would Do

Replace most or all fixtures in the treatment room. No spectral data to identify which lights are performing well. Default approach: rip and replace everything. Cost: thousands in materials and labor.

What Luxara Recommended

Replace two bulbs. Our measurement data pinpointed the problem to exactly two track light fixtures. Every other fixture was already excellent. No new fixtures. No electrician. No rewiring. Cost: under $200.

Two Replacement Bulbs. Five Options. Zero Guesswork.

Our assessment data showed the problem was isolated to exactly two Lithonia track head fixtures with poor-quality bulbs. Every other fixture in the studio was performing at or above health-related standards.

We provided five replacement options across two categories — high color quality bulbs (95+ CRI, flicker-free, warm white) and true amber options (warm-dim to 1800K and pure 597nm amber) — because the owner specifically wanted warm amber light for the treatment area. All five were direct drop-in replacements. No new fixtures needed.

The Luxara Difference

By assessing first and targeting only the fixtures that were actually causing problems, we saved thousands in unnecessary replacements and delivered a better outcome. The assessment is the product. The data tells the story. The fixes follow from the findings, not from a sales agenda.

Full Compliance Across Six Health Metrics

After replacing the two offending bulbs, every zone in Tantra Studios met or exceeded health-related lighting criteria:

CRI ≥ 90
Color Rendering
Rf ≥ 78
Color Fidelity (WELL V2)
SVM ≤ 0.6
Stroboscopic Visibility
EML < 50
Evening Melanopic
CCT < 3000K
AMA Evening Guidance
RG ≤ RG1
Photobiological Safety

Luxara Wellness Lighting Verified

Tantra Studios received formal certification that its lighting environment meets health-related criteria referenced against WELL V2, IES TM-30, CIE S 026, IEEE PAR1789, and AMA standards. A credential the studio can display for clients and reference in marketing.
